A proactive language learner doesn’t wait for someone to tell them to do something – they speak to people in English because they know it will help them advance their language skills. This video shows ways to start conversations even if you are a very, very shy person.

The number one topic in the world for icebreakers is the weather.
You can say something positive just about any type of weather situation.

Isn’t it just beautiful outside? Isn’t the weather great today?
Look at the sky. That blue is so beautiful. I love the spring time in this city.
I love the warm weather.
I love it when it rains. When it rains, I just want to have a cup of coffee and read a good book.

Topic: Expressing preferences using PREFER, WOULD PREFER, and WOULD RATHER.

We can learn in this lesson how to express preferences.
Students sometimes confuse these expression ; prefer, would prefer, would rather.

[Difference in meaning]
We use prefer when we talk about what we like in general.
We use would prefer and would rather when we talk about specific choices in particular situation.

[Difference in Form]
Prefer and would prefer can be followed by Infinitive, Gerund and Noun.
However, would rather is going to take the base Verb.

[Naming our choices]
When we answer using ‘would prefer and would rather’, we have to use different prepositions.
I’d prefer going for a walk to taking a nap.
I’d rather go for a walk than take a nap.

Lady Gaga is the world’s biggest pop star. Her birth name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.

Classroom-gaga-article

The singer, songwriter, and performer is a native New Yorker. At the age of four, Lady Gaga learned to play piano by ear. She wrote her first song for the piano at age thirteen. When she turned fourteen, she performed during an open mic night at a nightclub.

Her 2008 debut album ,”The Fame,” achieved international success with the singles “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.”

Lady Gaga also had six No. 1 hits on the Billboard charts: “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “Love Game,” “Paparazzi,” “Bad Romance,” and “Telephone.” She has received five Grammy awards.

Here’s “Just Dance” from the album ‘”The Fame” by Lady Gaga.

Other music artists like David Bowie, Grace Slick, Bob Dylan, Queen, Elton John, and Michael Jackson inspire her.

Lady Gaga is well-recognized for her eccentric sense of style in fashion, performance, and her music videos.

Lady Gaga calls her fans “Little Monsters.” Her relationship with her fans is very sincere. Her fans go crazy for her for her like the Beatles’ or Michael Jackson’s fans went crazy for them.

Lady Gaga says it’s not important to be number one or to sell the most records. She says the most important thing is to give everything she can to inspire, influence, and make her fans feel good about themselves.

Her third studio album, “Born This Way,” is scheduled for this month.

This is Lady Gaga’s new single, “Born This Way.”

I can give you practical suggestions on mastering English on your own.

You could combine self-study (teach yourself) books for learning English with English phrasebooks and conversation books. Such books often come with audio and even video aid. Teach yourself books for learning English may be monolingual (in English only) or bilingual, cover major English pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, some conversation, and have the key (the answers to the exercises) for self-check which is important.
The duration of each lesson may be one hour every day.

1. Learn English pronunciation including intonation (major rules of reading English letters, the articulation of vowels and consonants, stress in words, phrases and intonation in sentences). Do practical phonetic exercises including listening exercises.

2. After mastering English pronunciation, you can learn English grammar and practise grammar rules in exercises that have the key for self-check.
To enliven learning English you can study at each lesson a certain number of fixed thematic conversational phrases that do not require grammar knowledge (for example, greetings, forms of addressing a person, thanks, well-wishing, apology, etc.). It is preferable to listen to audio recordings of such phrases that must be memorised through multiple reading and self-check. You also learn a certain number of English vocabulary in grammar exercises. There are also English grammar practice books with the key for learners at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.

3. After mastering English grammar and fixed conversational phrases you can concentrate on mastering everyday conversational topics and vocabulary from English phrasebooks and conversation books in the following sequence: listening and pronouncing, speaking with self-check, reading and writing. Conversation practice should include dialogues (day-to-day conversations between two or more people), narrations on daily conversational topics, questions and answers on those topics, a list of vocabulary on each topic and usage sentences with difficult vocabulary on each topic, and extensive thematic reading.

4. Master English vocabulary thoroughly from general thematic English dictionaries combined with English synonym dictionaries that provide vocabulary usage explanations and example sentences.

Please read my articles on learning English conversation, vocabulary, grammar, etc. on this website for more insight.

Sincerely,
Michael Shelby
